The $300,000 Ford Mustang GTD looks like an absolute beast standing still, but things really get taken up a notch when you see and hear it testing at the Nürburgring. Not only does it look very fast, but its 5.2-liter supercharged V8 sounds completely nutty.
The YouTube channel “CarSpyMedia” captured a couple of Mustang GTD prototypes lapping the Nordschleife during a recent industry testing session. From the footage in this three-and-a-bit minute-long video, you can tell that neither of the drivers were holding back, and that’s good for us. It means that we all get to hear what that over-800 horsepower V8 and eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle can do. Ford says that the GTD will be able to circle the Nürburgring in under seven minutes. That is a blistering pace, and from the looks of this video – it seems absolutely doable.
To make matters even more lovely for us, odds are this isn’t even the best the new GTD will sound. From the looks of it, the big, squared-off exhaust tips have been replaced with smaller, round tips. If I had to guess, that’s to actually keep the noise level down, but with a motor like that under the hood, there’s only so much silencing that can be done.
Sure, the Mustang GTD is going to cost a hell of a lot of money (especially for a Mustang), but who can really complain when it sounds so great, accelerates that hard, and cuts through corners with ease because of its pushrod suspension?
