Police reports for Burning Man are finally out, and according to the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office, arrests were down, with just 13 arrested at the 2023 event.
A majority of the arrests this year — seven in total — were for domestic battery, battery or assault, including one arrest with a deadly weapon. There were also four arrests for controlled substances, two DUI arrests, and one for a bench warrant, according to the Gazette-Journal.

Sergeant Nathan Carmichael told the Gazette-Journal that five people also alleged they were given a date rape drug, and eight sexual assault reports are under investigation.
Californians comprised a majority of the arrested, with seven people from the Golden State. Two of those arrested were from Nevada, and the rest were from Florida, Idaho, Hawaii and Indiana.
The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed one death during the event. Truckee resident Leon Reece, 32, was found unresponsive on the playa on Sept. 1, the medical examiner’s office told SFGATE. A dispatcher with the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office told SFGATE on Sept. 3 that the death occurred during the storm.
