Toyota is giving us another look at the upcoming sixth-generation 4Runner. It’s still a back-end shot, but we now have a much clearer look at what the next-gen ‘Runner is going to look like. There isn’t too much information to go on at this point, but it is a tantalizing glimpse.

What we can see is that the sixth 4Runner will come with the SUV’s iconic roll-down rear window. It’s been a staple of the 4Runner since Moses wore short pants. Exterior-wise, we also get a look at what the taillights will look like (oddly similar to its predecessor’s) as well as a new “TOYOTA” badge that’ll run across the top of the license plate frame.

Update: Thursday, April 4, 10:50 a.m. EST: Toyota has also released a video on its Instagram page showing off the roll-down rear window in action. That’s neat in itself, but the big news here is Toyota is saying the official reveal of the sixth-generation 4Runner will come on April 9. Get your popcorn ready, folks.

Some other big news, we are getting our first glimpse of the interior of the sixth-generation 4Runner. Gone is the ancient and tiny screen, in its place is a much more modern, much more bigger(!!!) center screen. This isn’t your grandpa’s 4Runner. He bought a fifth-gen when they first came out. He’s now 126 years old.

All in all, this does not look to be as drastic an update as we may have first thought. While it’s certainly all-new, it looks like more of an evolution than a revolution over the fifth-generation truck. That’s okay. As they always say, if it ain’t broke DON’T BREAK IT.

We still don’t know what the mechanics of the new 4Runner will be. The current car has been on sale for 14 very long years, and the entire time its made do with its 4.0-liter V6 and 5-speed automatic transmission. I’m positive both of these parts are going away for the new truck. If I were a betting man, I’d say Toyota’s i-Force and i-Force Max turbocharged four-cylinders will make an appearance in the new truck.

Toyota is really drawing out the process of revealing this vehicle. Hopefully, we’ll get some more insight into what this thing really is soon, but until then, the teasers will have to suffice.
