Actor Saif Ali Khan‘s career saw a huge milestone in the form of ‘Omkara’. His widely acknowledged performance as Langda Tyagi was the best of his career. However, in a recent interview, the director himself, Vishal Bhardwaj revealed that actor Aamir Khan was initially considered for the role before Saif.
While speaking with Mid Day, Vishal Bhardwaj mentioned that Aamir Khan had expressed interest in playing the role of Langda Tyagi in the movie.The director stated that Aamir is responsible for the luck that Saif eventually got. He further unraveled the story, revealing that he used to have frequent talks with Aamir and narrated a story, as he wanted to adapt Othello. It was during this time that Aamir expressed his willingness to play Langda Tyagi in the project.
The director, who had taken a break from work for a year, decided to make the project happen as he was desperate. After seeing some of Saif’s work, he believed that Saif could bring the same excitement to the role as Aamir would have.When asked about the reason for not casting Aamir in the movie, the director shared that he did not want to delay the project for another year as Aamir was busy with ‘Rang De Basanti’. Hence, he decided to proceed with whoever was available.

‘Omkara’ is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Othello. It stars Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Konkana Sen Sharma, and Bipasha Basu. This 2006 drama was well-received at the box office and among the audience, and it also garnered National Film Awards. Konkana Sen Sharma was awarded the Best Supporting Actress Award.
