Three people in Georgia have been arrested after video posted to social media appeared to show a 12-year-boy being assaulted “because of his sexual orientation,” police say.

Gaye magazine, a Black LGBTQ+ online publication, in June posted disturbing video from Instagram Live which showed a boy being verbally assaulted by two women and one man, according to NBC News.

“You still doing gay s***,” the man says to the boy before turning the boy’s head towards the camera, revealing the word “gay” shaved into his head.

“You think this on the side of your head for no reason, is that what you think?” the man says, then slaps the boy in the head. “So why you just say that gay a** s***?”

He then shoves the boy.

“Investigators were made aware of video posted on social media that depicted what appeared to be a young male who was being abused and it appeared he was being abused because of his sexual orientation,” Atlanta Police Sgt. John Chafee told a press conference.

Police worked to identify the location and the boy, and removed him from a home and made the arrests.

Lorkeyla Jamia Spencer, 19, and Brittney Monique Mills, 35, are charged with cruelty to children and Jordan Jarrode Richards-Nwankwo, 18, is charged with cruelty to children and battery — family violence. All three remain in Fulton County Jail, according to police.

Police did not specify their relationship with the boy to protect his identity.

“The behaviour in this social media post was difficult to watch and is absolutely unacceptable,” Atlanta Police said in a statement. “We are appreciative of the number of people who flagged this case with us and for those who provided information on the location where it took place.”
