Tiger Woods has been appointed as the sixth player-director on the PGA Tour’s policy board, which was established in response to the controversy surrounding the proposed deal between rival golf factions. The announcement of the deal with DP World Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which supports LIV Golf, came as a shock to Woods, Rory McIlroy, and other players who were not informed beforehand. This led to a sense of “betrayal” among the players, with calls for PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan to resign. To address these concerns, Woods has been given a role as a player-director in an effort to make the Tour a more player-driven organization. The PGA Tour has also agreed to ensure that no major decisions can be made without the involvement and approval of the player-directors. The player-directors will have full transparency and authority to approve or decline changes to the Tour as part of the Framework Agreement discussions. Woods expressed his honor in representing the players of the PGA Tour and pledged to work towards decisions that benefit all stakeholders. Monahan also acknowledged the need to restore trust and confidence among the players and committed to advocating for their best interests. The Tour stated that 41 players, including McIlroy, Schauffele, Rahm, Spieth, Thomas, Lowry, and Fitzpatrick, have expressed support for the changes.
