Mumbai, July 24: Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has made history by winning a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The whole country had high expectations from Mirabai, who participated in the 49 kg weightlifting weight class. Mirabai fulfilled this expectation by lifting 202 kg. India has won a medal in weightlifting for the first time in 21 years.

India’s star weightlifter has dedicated this medal to the entire country. “It was a dream come true,” said Mirabai. She also thanked the family, coaches and fans. Mirabai has expressed her feelings by tweeting after the highest performance of her career so far.

This is India’s second Olympic medal in the history of weightlifting. Karnam Malleshwari had earlier won a bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics (2000). Mirabai has won the silver medal this year. She lifted a total of 202 kg, 87 in the snatch group and 115 in the clean and jerk group. Chinese weightlifter How Zhihu won the gold medal by lifting a total weight of 210 kg.
