Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today launched the Toyota Taisor compact SUV in the Indian market. The Taisor is essentially a re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and is the sixth car to be shared from the Maruti – Toyota partnership. Interested customers can book the new Taisor online or by visiting their nearest Toyota dealership. Deliveries are slated to begin from May 2024.

Maruti Suzuki offers the Fronx in five trims – Sigma, Delta, Delta Plus, Zeta and Alpha. Talking about the Taisor, the 1.2-litre NA engine is offered with E, S, and S plus with prices starting from Rs 7.73 lakh and going up to Rs 9.52 lakh. Talking about the 1.0-litre engine, it’s offered in G and V variants with prices starting from Rs 10.55 lakh and going up to 13.03 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The Maruti Fronx is priced between Rs 8.7-15.25 lakh (both prices Ex-showroom). The Toyota Taisor costs Rs 51,000 to 61,000 more than the Maruti, depending on the variant. With the 1.2-litre engine variants, there is a price difference of up to Rs. 25,000. Surprisingly in the 1.0-litre turbo variants, there is only a difference of Rs 1000 between the Fronx and the Taisor.

As mentioned previously, the Taisor is essentially a re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. On the outside, the Taisor and Fronx have a lot in common and share the same body panels. However, the Taisor gets a re-designed front grille with a chrome strip running across. It also gets re-designed LED DRLs and tweaked front bumper with a skid plate. Furthermore, the Taisor also gets a new design for the 16-inch alloy wheels. At the back, both are nearly identical with the only differentiating factor being the badging.

Moving inside, the Taisor and Fronx share an identical dashboard layout, with the only difference being the badges. The Taisor gets dual-tone burgundy-black interior finish with a free-standing 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The Toyota Taisor shares its entire features list with the Fronx, both SUVs get a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car tech, automatic climate control, OTA updates, automatic LED headlamps with DRLs, wireless charger, Tilt and telescopic adjustment for steering wheel, 6-speaker sound system, semi-digital cluster, push-button start, rear AC vents, Cruise Control, Head-up display, 360-deg camera and more.
In terms of safety features, the Taisor and Fronx get six airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), a hill-hold assist, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages.

Toyota Taisor vs Maruti Fronx: Engine and gearbox
Both SUVs also share their engine and gearbox options. The Taisor and Fronx get a tried and tested 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, NA petrol engine which puts out 90 hp of power and 113 Nm of torque, gearbox options will include a 5-speed manual or an AMT. Another engine is the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine which puts out 100 hp of power and 147 nm of torque, gearbox options will include a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Both also get a factory-fitted CNG kit, producing 77.5 PS and 98.5 Nm of torque in CNG mode, and only get the manual gearbox option.
