SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – It was a warm and humid afternoon with highs topping out in the upper 70s and lower 80s. A round of severe weather moved through the region this afternoon and it looks like the severe weather threat returns tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms could move in during the overnight, otherwise skies will remain mostly cloudy. Another mild and muggy night is on the way as lows fall back into the upper 60s to around 70. There could be some area of fog as well.
Sunday will once again be a First Alert Weather Day due to high heat and humidity as well as the threat for severe weather tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for central and eastern portions of Hampden and Hampshire counties until 7pm Sunday. As we head through tomorrow afternoon we will see another round of showers and thunderstorms with the potential for several storms to become strong to severe. Timing for these storms looks to be between 2-10 pm.
Main concerns with the storms that become severe will be strong, damaging wind gusts and torrential rainfall that could lead to flooding. In addition there is also a risk for large hail as well as the potential for a few tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center places much of Western Mass under a Slight Risk for severe weather tomorrow, a 2 out of 5 on the severe weather scale. Much of Franklin county as well as northern Berkshire county are under an Enhanced Risk for severe weather tomorrow, which is a 3 out of 5 on the severe weather scale. Make sure you remain weather aware tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening and have a way to receive severe weather alerts.
Low pressure will bring a cold front through the area on Monday. We stay humid and unsettled with early showers or a thunderstorm, then drier air starts building in. High pressure will bring sunshine and seasonably warm temperatures Tuesday, but also a more comfortable day.
Turning hotter and more humid mid-week, with another chance for thunderstorms by Thursday.
