Two arrested after body found, shots fired at cars travelling on major NSW highway in Port Macquarie area

Two people have been arrested after a body was found and shots were fired at cars travelling on the Pacific Highway on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Four separate shootings were reported between 1.40am and 5.40am at various locations along the major north-south arterial road in the Manning-Great Lakes and Kempsey regions on Thursday.

Shots were reportedly fired from a black Mercedes-Benz dual-cab ute, which was also seen driving erratically.

One of the vehicles that was shot at was a police car attempting to stop the Mercedes.

A passing motorist who was also shot at suffered a “graze” and was assessed by paramedics.

The shootings appear to have been “random”, Acting Assistant Commissioner Scott Tanner said on Thursday.

At 2pm, police announced they were looking for two men after seizing the ute at Wayne Richard Park at Port Macquarie.

The two men have since been arrested.
