U2’s legendary bassist, Adam Clayton, has separated from his wife Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho after ten years of marriage, with the couple issuing a plea for privacy during this time.
A spokesperson for the duo confirmed the split to the Sunday World, revealing that the couple, who wed in 2013 and share a six-year-old daughter named Alba, have amicably decided to go their separate ways.
The representative stated: “After more than 10 years of marriage, musician Adam Clayton and lawyer Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have amicably divorced.”
The statement added: “Both will continue to be fully involved in the care of their daughter and they request that the family’s privacy be respected.”
Adam, 64, and his lawyer wife Mariana, 45, had a discreet wedding ceremony at a Dublin registry office, which was followed four years later by the birth of their daughter.

A personal ad in the Irish Times announced: “Adam and Mariana Clayton are delighted to announce the birth of their beautiful baby girl Alba.”
Despite the understated nature of their nuptials, the couple didn’t hold back on celebrating in style, throwing a grand party at a historic French chateau near Cannes, attended by 150 guests including U2 members Bono, The Edge, and Larry Mullen Jr.
Adam has traditionally kept his personal life under wraps, but in a rare moment of openness at the MusiCares MAP Fund event in June 2017, he shared an intimate glimpse into his love life.
He fondly recalled meeting his wife Mariana, saying: “I was in Brazil and I met a lawyer who was smart and beautiful.
“We started dating. I got married in sobriety to Mariana. I didn’t think that would happen. She’s never seen me drinking, but she does know me crazy.
“Thank you, Mariana, for the wonderful life we have together and for making every day more meaningful.”
The rock star’s romantic history has often been in the limelight, including his engagement to supermodel Naomi Campbell in 1994. However, their relationship eventually ended.
Later, Adam proposed to Suzie Smith in 2006, but it’s his passion for gardening that has recently captured public attention.
His appearance on Gardeners’ World showcased his Dublin garden, a labour of love for over thirty years, featuring a river, thousands of trees, and serene islands.
Fans were quick to express their admiration for Adam’s horticultural haven on social media. One enthusiast exclaimed: “Now I love Adam more. I want a holiday in his garden!”
Another fan praised the show, commenting: “I wish BBC Two had a like button. Exceptional #gardenersworld tonight. Adam Clayton’s garden and story a revelation.”
