UK weather: Britain is hit by fresh flood warning with thunderstorms and showers set to continue until the weekend

Britons have been left pondering when the summer will arrive as they are hit with fresh flood warnings and showers of rain that are set to continue into the weekend. 

The Met Office issued a weather warnings for rain and thunderstorms today as they predicted heavy downpours tomorrow and thunderstorms on Sunday.

The yellow rain alert, which covers much of Wales and stretches to Manchester and Birmingham, is in place until 11pm and warns of a power cuts, flooding and ‘difficult’ driving conditions. 

Meanwhile, thunderstorms are expected in the south west of England until 8pm which are expected to cause longer journeys on roads, delays to trains and flooding.

The Met Office forecast for today reads: ‘Remaining cloudy with outbreaks of rain across central and eastern England, moving westwards into Wales later. 

‘Elsewhere, warm sunny spells but showers developing by the afternoon, particularly in the south and west, with a risk of thunder.’

Tonight’s forecast read: ‘Rain continuing across some central areas, but showers in the south soon fading. Mist, fog and low cloud developing under any clear spells. Staying mild under any cloud.’

On Friday, any mist and fog is set to clear to leave sunny spells and showers which will turn ‘particularly heavy’ with a risk of thunder in the south.

However, it will ‘feel warm in the sunshine’. 

The outlook for Saturday to Monday reads: ‘Warm sunny spells and heavy, thundery showers continue on Saturday, particularly in the south. A little drier with fewer showers on Sunday and Monday. Feeling warm in any sunshine.’
