Vic COVID cases EXPLAINED: Thousands in isolation as Health authorities investigate MCG coronavirus spread

COVID-19 infections continue to spread from a members’ stand at the MCG, with a 20-year-old man among new locally acquired cases in Victoria.

On Saturday, the health department confirmed there were 19 new local cases of COVID-19, which is the biggest daily increase this outbreak.

All of the cases are linked to known clusters, which are the Sydney removalists who sparked the Ariele apartments outbreak and the family in the Hume area who returned from a red zone and visited Craigieburn Coles.

Of the 19 cases there is one more linked to the MCG and two of that man’s friends have also tested positive, with one recently travelling to Phillip Island.

A case also dined at Ms Frankie in Cremorne and there have been three more cases in staff and patrons.

A second student at St Patrick’s in Murrumbeena is also positive as are two further staff members at Trinity Grammar School.

The outbreak is now at 43 cases.
