Gujarat Rains: Crocodiles Spotted In Residential Areas in Vadodara. Watch Viral Video
A video is going viral on Twitter that shows two bikers stopping while a crocodile crosses a road in Vadodara’s Jambuwa village.
Crocodiles have been spotted in waterlogged residential areas in Vadodara during the monsoon season. This is a common occurrence as the Vishwamitri River in Gujarat’s Vadodara overflows due to heavy rains, causing the nearby areas to flood. With over 300 crocodiles in the river, they start coming out and swimming near buildings. In some cases, these crocodiles even reach the doors of locals, posing a threat to their safety.

During the monsoon, authorities receive around 25-30 calls every day reporting crocodile sightings. To venture out and purchase groceries, locals have to rely on rescue boats to ferry them out of their apartments.
Earlier this month, a crocodile was rescued from the Puja Garden area of Vadodara after getting stuck in a stormwater drain cover. Watch the video here:

The crocodiles seek shelter and often end up in stormwater drains and underground drainage lines. Animal activist Neha Patel, who is involved in crocodile rescues, explains that the crocodiles travel several kilometers unnoticed through these drains. As a result, crocodiles can now be found in several areas of Vadodara inside the drainage lines.
