Michael Penix Jr. has had himself one heckuva season and it will culminate Monday when he leads his Washington Huskies against Michigan for the national title.
Considering all that is surely on the star quarterback’s mind then, it might surprise some Penn State fans to know that he took the time to comment on his former coach at Indiana, Tom Allen, who was recently hired to replace Manny Diaz as the Nittany Lions defensive coordinator.
Penix Jr. is reportedly a big fan.
“He’s a great coach,” the quarterback told Brett McMurphy. “He’s a coach that it’s easy to love him because of the guy he is, the person he is. I feel like he cares about his players. He cares about the person more than the player. I feel like he’s a guy that will definitely do great things at Penn State. He’s going to bring great leadership. He’s going to bring great energy, intensity each and every day. He was always the same guy every day and always had that same energy, same spark, trying to help the team be better in any way that he could. I feel like they’re definitely getting a good coach.”
It was a glowing endorsement, obviously, and one Penn State fans surely welcome after the excellent job that Diaz, who took the head coaching job at Duke, did this past season.
