Watch Cops Arrest World Number One Golfer Scottie Scheffler

Last Friday, PGA top golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested by police sitting outside the entrance to Valhalla Golf Club out in Louisville, KY. Scheffler was trying to access the next round of the PGA tour, where he is currently competing, but was stopped by cops for “disregarding traffic signals” around the scene of an accident, as well as criminal mischief, reckless driving, and second-degree assault of a police officer.

An ESPN reporter on the ground published video of the arrest shortly after it happened, but now we’ve got video from the police side of things. Two new clips from the Louisville Metro Police Department show the arrest from two angles: One in the sky, above the accident, and one from a cruiser at ground level.

Of the two clips, the aerial view is clearer. At just four minutes long, it’s condensed down to just the arrest itself, showing Scheffler’s arrival followed by riveting minutes of his car sitting at the golf club’s white fence unmoving.

The ground level view is shot from what should be a clearer angle, if not for the menagerie of vehicles separating the camera car from Scheffler himself. A bus, an Explorer cruiser, and other vehicles all end up arranged such that little of Scheffler is actually visible — or audible, given the clips’s silence.

What is made clear in the longer video, however, is that police had previously been directing vehicles into the Valhalla Golf Club. Scheffler appears to have cut in line, taking the inside route through the turn-in while a bus sat in the middle of the intersection, which seems to be why he was stopped.

Scheffler still made it to the PGA tour in time to play, and placed eighth in the standings after apparently warming up in jail that morning. Under that kind of stress, I’d call that more than respectable.
