Shekhar Suman recently opened up about the death of is son who passed away due to a rare heart condition.
Endomyocardial Fibrosis is a rare heart disease that affects only one a billion people. This is a super rare condition that Bollywood actor Shekhar Suman recently opened up about.
In an interview, he got emotional while speaking about his elder son who passed away at the tender age of 11 due to Endomyocardial Fibrosis (EMF). He said, “EMF is a disease so rare that it affects only one in billions. As far as I know, there might be only three or four cases of it in India. Unfortunately, there is no known cure; the only treatment option is a heart transplant.”
According to the National Organisation of Rare Diseases, “Its most obvious feature is a gross change in the makeup of the lining of the heart cavities (the endocardium) of one or both of the lower chambers of the heart (the ventricles) leading to the replacement of normal cells with fibrous tissue (fibrosis). This process is progressive and leads to the narrowing (constriction) of the right or left ventricular cavities. It may involve the valves between the chambers of the heart as well as the tendon-like cords that fix the valves to the ventricles (chordae tendineae).”
