Victorians waking to their first day of a new lockdown restrictions will be hoping for good news when health authorities provide a COVID-19 update in their press conference on Friday.
Daniel Andrews on Thursday announced the same rules that applied during last month’s lockdown would be reimposed on Victoria, including a 5km travel limit for exercise and shopping and compulsory masks indoors and outdoors, to curb a growing outbreak of the COVID-19 Delta variant.

The Premier says he hopes Victoria’s fifth COVID-19 lockdown is “short” and “sharp” but admits he can’t guarantee stay-at-home orders will end before next Wednesday.
Andrews told reporters on Thursday afternoon the state’s contact tracers haven’t been able to keep up with the spread of the highly infectious variant.
“We’ve got no choice. We don’t want this getting away from us and being locked down for months,” he said.
Despite describing it as a “short, sharp” lockdown, the premier would not rule out extending the shutdown beyond 11.59pm on Tuesday.
“It may be longer because it depends on what every Victorian does,” Andrews said, adding some parts of regional Victoria could be freed earlier if it is deemed safe.
Vic Health exposure sites
Victorians waking up to their first morning of lockdown are also being greeted by a raft of new exposure sites.
Several new locations were listed by the Department of Health late on Thursday night after being visited by a confirmed case of COVID-19.
There are more than 110 exposures sites dotted across Melbourne and regional Victoria, including the MCG and several stores at Chadstone shopping centre.
