What time is the Dan Andrews press conference today with announcement on how long Vic lockdown will be extended?
Premier Daniel Andrews will on Tuesday explain how long Victoria’s lockdown will be extended after his announcement on Monday that the state hadn’t done enough to stamp out an outbreak of the “wildly infectious” Delta coronavirus variant.
Andrews confirmed Victoria’s lockdown – which was due to end at 11.59pm on Tuesday night – would need to be extended after the state recorded four new local COVID-19 cases in addition to the 13 infections reported earlier on Monday.

He said there were still “far too many” cases of community transmission for the statewide lockdown to lift, adding that the easing of restrictions in regional communities by Tuesday night was impossible to do.
“We are running alongside this virus, but we’re not yet in front of it,” he told reporters on Monday.
“I don’t want a situation where we fail to extinguish this, we fail to end these chains of transmission, only to open and then be closed again a short time thereafter,” he said.
Vic lockdown update
Victoria’s Department of Health and contact tracers have been working overnight to collect as much information before the new lockdown timeframe is announced.
The state’s public health team and senior government ministers will make the final call on the length of the extension by Tuesday morning.
Monday’s testing figures and results, as well as any new exposure sites and mystery cases, will guide their decision.
“It will be based on the best information, the most complete set of facts that we can possibly claw together,” Andrews said on Monday.
“When the data comes in I will be out to speak to the community as soon as a decision is made and I hope that is as early tomorrow as possible.
“Then people will know what rules apply and for what period.”
DH exposure sites
Contact tracers are working tirelessly with more than 15,800 close contacts self-isolating the state’s exposure sites associated with the current outbreaks ballooning to over 300 venues.
Late on Monday night, the Department of Health added a slew of new venues to its list of COVID-19 hotspots in Victoria.
A number of cafes, a gym, and a Bunnings store are among the new exposure sites.
