Ich bin ein Berliner
In 2004, Berlin’s mayor at the time, Klaus Wowereit, declared that the German capital was “poor, but sexy!” While the European city has rapidly evolved throughout history, it has always maintained its status as an international frontrunner in culture. This week, Tai Kwun hosts a mlange of Berlin’s best cultural offerings, including performances by the Wrttemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn, breakdance group Flying Steps and singer Ute Lemper. Other events include a lecture on the impact of Bauhaus on Hong Kong architecture; a binge-watching session of the TV drama, Babylon Berlin; Berlin-inspired light shows by Lichtpiraten; and screenings of some of Germany’s most acclaimed films.

Metal monologues
Known for her enormous installations involving various industrial materials, American artist Carol Bove continues her series of “collage sculptures” by twisting and distorting brightly colored steel tubes into various forms. Showcasing her fascination with modes of display, Bove also restructures the exhibition space meticulously to emphasize the relationship between each piece and its viewer.

Irene Chou revisited
This upcoming exhibition revisits the works of Irene Chou, whose ink paintings took the Hong Kong arts scene by storm in the 1980s. A leader of the New Ink art movement, Chou was known for her oddly mesmerizing abstract works that were sometimes splashed with creative melancholy. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a largely unseen work from Chou’s early career. Commissioned for a now-demolished restaurant, the piece is more than four meters long and displays many of Chou’s finest skills.
