The company is introducing new safety tools on WhatsApp for Android beta users to address messages from unknown phone numbers. A new screen will be displayed when beta users receive a message from an unknown phone number, providing them with options to block or report the contact. The screen also offers information on staying safe in chat by checking the profile name, photo, and country code. Privacy and control are emphasized as the sender will not be notified of message reads until the recipient chooses to reply or add the contact. These safety tools are currently available to some beta testers and will be rolled out to more users soon. In previous updates, WhatsApp introduced features like creating new groups while forwarding messages, animated avatars, and sending high-quality videos.
