India’s richest person, Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani‘s youngest son Anant Ambani is all set to get hitched to Radhika Merchant on July 12, 2024. And ahead of their wedding, Anant and Radhika’s grand pre-wedding celebrations will be held in Jamnagar, Gujarat from March 1 to 3. From Bill Gates to Mark Zuckerberg, the pre-wedding celebrations will be attended by the who’s who of the business and tech elites from across the world. But why was Jamnagar selected as a venue for the grand festivities? Answering this, Anant revealed in an interview recently that Jamnagar is close to his heart. Also he was inpired by PM Narendra Modi’s idea of Wed in India.
“I have spent my childhood in Jamnagar. It is a blessing that we are able to plan my pre-wedding celebrations here. This is where my grandmother, Kokilaben Ambani, was born. Our PM, Shi Narendra Modi, had said that people should get married in India; it should be a matter of great pride and happiness for us. My father oftens says that this (Jamnagar) is my grandfather, the late Dhirubhai Ambani’s in-laws place. And that’s why we chose to host our pre-wedding celebrations here. I believe I belong to Jamnagar,” Anant Ambani told India Today in an interview.
What is Wed in India?
In 2023, PM Narendra Modi had expressed his concerns over the trend of India’s rich and elite getting married abroad in his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’. He had further said that just like the Make in India campaign, we should have a Wed in India campaign too which would help generate employment and boost the country’s economy on a larger scale.
Anant-Radhika’s pre-wedding celebrations
Many prominent people like Bill Gates, Melinda Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Ivanka Trump among others will be seen in attendance at Anant-Radhika’s pre-wedding celebrations in Jamnagar. Apart from this, Bollywood and other celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh among others are expected to be seen at the grand festivities.
As per reports, a team of 21 chefs has been flow to Jamnagar for the three-day celebrations wherein over 2,500 dishes would be served to the guests.
