Marcus Rashford is back in pre-season training for Manchester United after not being picked for England at Euro 2024.
The Red Devils star reported to his club’s Carrington training ground earlier this week ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Since making his Three Lions debut, Rashford has played in four major tournaments for his country.
This would have been his fifth, but England are without him…
Why is Rashford not at Euro 2024?
Rashford was not selected in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
The United forward made 33 Premier League appearances last season, scoring seven goals and setting up two more.
But the England boss believes other players in the squad who play in Rashford’s position enjoyed better campaigns.
Southgate instead opted for Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, and Eberechi Eze to challenge for the spot on the left side of his attack.
Speaking after Rashford and Jordan Henderson were omitted from his squad, Southgate said: “These are difficult calls – you are talking about players who are very good players who have been an important part of what we have done.
“With Marcus [Rashford], I feel players in the same area of the pitch have had better seasons, it’s as simple as that.”
In response to this, Rashford posted an Instagram story.
The post consisted of an image of England’s preliminary 33 players included in the initial squad, with the caption: “Wishing Gareth and the boys all the best for the up and coming tournament.”
So, Rashford will be watching this European Championship from home, but he will no doubt be cheering the Three Lions on.
But talkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara believes it was the wrong decision to leave him at home.
He said: “You know how I feel about Rashford, we 100 per cent should have taken Rashford.
“He runs beyond, he knows how to score goals, he can do something out of the ordinary in a game that’s in the balance.
“Rashford could have come on and make a difference.
“Yeah he’s been toilet for Man United this season, yeah, he hasn’t run around, I get that.
“But tournament football, I think Rashford would have made a difference, but he ain’t there.”
