Winners and Finalists of the 2024 Sony World Photography Awards Open Competition

Winners and Finalists of the 2024 Sony World Photography Awards Open Competition

The World Photography Organization has unveiled the category winners in this year’s Sony World Photography Awards Open competition. Nearly 400,000 images from over 220 countries and territories were submitted to 10 categories: Architecture, Creative, Landscape, Lifestyle, Motion, Natural World & Wildlife, Object, Portraiture, Street Photography, and Travel.

For underwater photographers, the most interesting shots can be found in the Natural World & Wildlife category. Ian Ford from the UK won the category with the sensational image above—appropriately titled “Caiman Crunch”—capturing the moment a jaguar pounces on an unsuspecting caiman. There were also three fabulous underwater images in the category, by Rina Saito from Japan, Thien Nguyen Ngoc from Vietnam, and Jonathan McSwain from the US—see below.

Check out the rest of the Open competition finalists and winners here. Speaking of competitions, make sure to enter your best work into this year’s Photo Competition for UN World Oceans Day, which is accepting entries—taken both underwater and above water—in five categories.
