Living in Australia means competing with the sun’s harsh UV rays while also trying to wear makeup and look your best at any given function.
So in a bid to combine sun protection and beauty products a group of women on social media are using coloured zinc sticks in place of their usual foundation, blush, concealer and eyeshadow powders.
“Why are more Aussies not talking about this? It’s the zinc stick but in place of foundation. We normally use this to create a big stripe over the nose but instead you can use it as makeup,” one woman said in a video posted online.

User Jade T then proceeded to smear some of the zinc onto her face and press it in with a beauty blender.
“If this doesn’t make me break out I’m going to be doing this for sure,” she said.

“I’m so scared about getting wrinkly, old skin from the sun so this is such a good hack,” said another.
Zinc has often been touted as an excellent sensitive skin option for sunscreen appliers.
While the makeup can’t be used in place of applying regular all-over-your-face sunscreen it does provide a novel extra bit of SPF50+ and will stay on much better than typical makeup would when swimming at the beach.
