The standard speed limit on the Yamuna Expressway is ordinarily set at 100 kmph. However, anticipating dense fog in the upcoming winter weeks, the authorities have opted to reduce the speed limit as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents. Previously, the 165-km long expressway experienced incidents of accidents and pile-ups. The revised speed limit is slated to be enforced for a minimum duration of two months, said the authority in a letter released on Wednesday.

In a letter, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has instructed Jaypee Infratech to take on the responsibility of maintaining the Yamuna Expressway speedway. The real estate company is mandated to increase the count of patrolling vehicles, ambulances, and light commercial vehicle cranes.
Approximately 64 cameras are set to be installed along the entire 165-kilometre stretch. Moreover, Jaypee Infratech has received instructions to install high-quality fog lights and reflective tapes at both entry and exit points. The letter states that “(Currently), most of the reflective tapes installed on Yamuna Expressway have very low reflection, due to which there remains darkness on the expressway. In view of the above, accidents may occur on the expressway.”
