For the Yankees, it started before their season opener against the Astros at 4:10 p.m. ET in Houston.

That’s where Joe Girardi ran into a funny little issue on his first day back on the job with YES Network.
Newsday’s Erik Boland posted on X: Joe Girardi, working today’s game for YES, was initially denied entry into the Astros clubhouse because he didn’t have the “right” credential. And away we go…
NJ Advance Media’s Randy Miller spotted Girardi on the phone in the press box before the Yankees clubhouse opened.
Girardi was the last Yankees manager to lead the team to a World Series title in 2009. He managed in the Bronx from 2008-17 when New York lost the 2017 American League Championship Series to the Astros in seven games.
He was a catcher on the Yankees from 1996-99, and following his retirement as a player, he joined YES for two separate stints before he started managing. He re-joined the network in February 2024.
