CM Yogi Adiyanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has decided to waive over over 17 lakh pending traffic challans in Noida. As per the order, the challans which were issued between April 1, 2018 and December 31, 2021, will be revoked and zeroed down by the traffic department. About 17,89,463 were issued for traffic violations during the period.
The move is expected to benefit a large number of people, including commuters, delivery workers, and taxi drivers. If you were fined during the afore-mentioned period, you are advised to not pay the challan as it will soon be removed from the e-challan portal.
What if you have already paid the fine?
If you have already paid the fine for a traffic challan issued during the period, there’s nothing that can be done now. Over 7 lakh motorists have already paid their e-challans and it’ll stay that way.
If you have not paid the challan yet, you don’t need to now. And if you have already paid, you’ve missed out on the financial benefit that comes as the government waives off the pending challan.

This is not the first time that the pending challans have been deleted from the portal. Earlier, the government cancelled close to 30,000 challans issued between December 2016 to December 2021. Following the recent cancellation, a significantly massive one, the e-challan data will be cleared from the portal and will come as a big relief for the traffic police, who are responsible for handling these, as well as the people who were fined.
