Nikon has returned to a somewhat unusual and very consumer-friendly marketing tactic with a new 30-day Trial program for the retro-inspired Nikon Zfc APS-C mirrorless camera.
“We’re so sure you’ll be thrilled with Nikon’s compact Zfc mirrorless camera that we’ll let you try one — worry-free — for 30 days. If you aren’t totally impressed (we’d be surprised), send it back to us for a full refund,” Nikon explains.
This is not the first time Nikon has pulled this idea out of its bag of tricks. In late 2019, Nikon introduced a similar program for the Nikon Z50. Then the following year, Nikon did it again with the Nikon Z5.
Like with that program, the new one for the Zfc promises photographers a full refund if they aren’t happy with the camera, and during their trial, Nikon will also be on hand to help users with any questions.
Also, like the 2020 program for the Z5, the new Zfc 30-day trial is available exclusively through Nikon’s online store to photographers in the United States.
In the case of the Zfc, photographers can select an eligible kit from Nikon’s offerings and start their free trial. To start the test period, photographers must pay for the camera, either in full, using a credit card, or through Nikon’s available financing options. If a customer purchases their kit using a credit card and returns it within 30 days of receipt, Nikon will refund the original payment method. Nikon will also pay for return shipping costs if the customer is an eligible delivery area.
As expected, there are many terms and conditions, which are outlined on Nikon’s Zfc 30-day Trial Program page. Among the numerous restrictions, it is worth noting that if someone is unhappy with the Zfc and wants to return it, it must be returned to Nikon in like-new condition to be eligible for a refund. Further, the program ends on November 15, 2023. Further, a user’s trial period begins the day their Zfc kit is delivered to them, not on the day they order the camera.
Interestingly, Nikon’s special colors for the Zfc are included in the promotion, including kits with the 16-50mm lens in black, sand beige, natural gray, white, coral pink, and mint green. The black Zfc is also available with the 28mm f/2.8 SE lens. The full list of available Zfc kits is available on Nikon’s website. Kit prices range from $1,000 to $1,100, or as low as $32.27 or $35.49 per month when purchased with financing.
