Google has been working on improving the lyrics feature on YouTube Music in the form of live lyrics. The feature first appeared in April and now YouTube is finally rolling out the live lyrics widely on Android and iOS
YouTube Music is finally getting live lyrics
The Verge has reported that the YouTube Music app on both Android and iOS has now received the live lyrics feature. The feature is available with YouTube Music app version 6.15 on Android and version 6.16 on iOS.
How it is different from the existing lyrics feature on YouTube Music
If you use YouTube Music, then you must be familiar with the existing Lyrics tab in the Now Playing section which shows the lyrics of the song. However, it is not interactive. With live lyrics, the Lyrics tab has been updated with a new design and larger text with better spacing. Also, it now responds with the song. For instance, the current line is highlighted in White and everything else remains faded in the background for a better viewing experience.
Apart from this, the page automatically refreshes when the song jumps to the next line. Also, the background has a blurred cover art and there’s also a note to signify audio before lyrics start.
Not all songs have live lyrics
According to the report, the feature is available for several songs that are available on YouTube Music. However, not all songs currently have live lyrics. But, the old static lyrics are still available for them. We expect that the feature will be made available for more songs in the coming days.
How to get the live lyrics on YouTube Music
The report mentions that the update is now available on both platforms. However, users may have to Force Stop the YouTube Music app from App info and then restart the app. Also, as mentioned not all songs currently show the live lyrics. So, you may have to try multiple songs to check if the feature is available for you or not.
