Maruti Suzuki India launched the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift in the Indian market recently. The new Swift in its fourth generation is essentially a heavily updated version of the third-gen platform. The hatchback features a new design, new engine, improved dynamics and an updated interior layout with new features and safety. The test drives and the deliveries of the new Swift are underway, Interested customers can book the hatch online or by visiting their nearest dealership by paying Rs 11,000.

The new Swift continues to directly compete with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago. Let’s talk about variants and pricing, The new Maruti Suzuki Swift is offered in five variants – LXi, VXi, ZXi, ZXi plus and ZXI Plus DT with prices ranging from Rs 6.49 lakh to 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom). Talking about the Hyundai Exter, it’s offered in EX, EX (O), S, S(O), SX, SX(O) and SX(O) connect variants with prices ranging from 6.15 lakh to 10.3 lakh (ex-showroom).

Talking about the dimensions, the Swift measures 3860 mm in length, 1735 mm in width, 1520 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2450 mm. The Hyundai Exter measures 3815 mm in length, 1710 mm in width, 1585 mm in height (without roofrails) and has a wheelbase of 2450 mm. The Maruti Swift is longer and wider whereas the Exter is taller and has a slightly longer wheelbase. The Exter also has ground clearance of 185 mm and Swift gets 163 mm.

Now comparing the engines, the new Swift is powered by an all-new Z-Series, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine which puts out 82 hp of power and 112 nm of torque. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual or an AMT. The new Swift has claimed fuel efficiency of 24.8 kmpl for the MT variants and 25.75 kmpl for AMT. As of now, the Swift is not available with CNG option.

The Hyundai Exter is powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine which puts out 83 hp of power and 113 nm of torque. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual or an AMT. The Exter has claimed fuel efficiency of 19.2 kmpl for the MT variants and 19.4 kmpl for AMT. The Exter gets a factory-fitted CNG kit with the same 1.2-litre petrol engine which develops 69hp and 95.2Nm of torque. This is only offered with a 5-speed gearbox and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.10 km.

Talking about the features, both cars are packed with features. The Swift gets a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car tech with over 40 features, Arkamys sound system, wireless charger, LED headlights, semi-digital cluster with 4.2 inch MID, rear AC vents, LED fog lamps, cruise control, auto climate control, push-button start/stop, steering-mounted controls, a rear camera, and power-adjustable and folding wing mirrors. Safety-wise, the Swift gets six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, hill start assist and ESC.

The Exter features an electric sunroof, dual dash camera, 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, in-built navigation, rear AC vents, automatic climate control and a wireless charger, Type-C USB ports, steering-mounted controls, a rear camera, power-adjustable and folding wing mirrors, cruise control, projector automatic headlamps, voice-commands in multiple languages, push-button start/stop and more.

Safety-wise, the micro SUV gets six airbags, ESC, hill assist control, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and camera, three-point seatbelt and seatbelt reminders for all seats, and ISOFIX anchorages.
