5 of the biggest ‘AI things’ that Google launched in 2023

Google welcomed the Gemini era
Google waited just shy of a year to launch a large language model (LLM) that can take on competitors, especially OpenAI’s GPT-4. Google says that Gemini is the company’s largest and most capable AI model at the time of debut. It’s multimodal, which means it can understand, and combine different kinds of information, including text, audio, video and code.Gemini is also among the most flexible models: and can run on smartphones and data centres. It has three sizes: Ultra, Pro and Nano.
Bard AI chatbot
First it was ChatGPT, then Copilot (previously Bing Chat) and Google followed up with Bard. The company still calls it an interactive experiment that lets users collaborate with generative AI. Bard has been supercharged with a more powerful LLM: Gemini Pro that makes it better in coding. The company also added visual capabilities and expanded it globally. It will also come to Google Assistant.
Pixel phones with AI features
Google launched the Pixel Fold, its first foldable phone, Pixel 7a, and Pixel 8 as well as Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel 8 series is powered by Google Tensor G3, which is designed keeping in mind the AI features that Google wants to launch in the future. The company is also offering 7 years of software and hardware commitment. The Pixel 8 Pro is also the first smartphone with AI built in, now running Gemini Nano to power new features such as Summarize in the Recorder app.
Generative AI in Search
Search Generative Experience (SGE) is a Search Labs experiment that uses generative AI to help users understand topics in faster and easier ways. Users can get AI-powered overviews that are produced in a manner that compiles relevant information, photos and videos for quick consumption.
Duet AI for Google Workspace
Just like Microsoft brought Copilot in 365 work apps, Google charged its Workspace apps with Duet AI. Duet AI in Slides can easily generate images for presentations with simple text-based prompts; in Sheets, it can automatically create custom plans for tasks or projects; in Gmail it can write or refine emails, it can generate unique backgrounds in Meet for video calls, and in Docs, can help users write and refine any draft.
