5 things you need to know

MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) – Happy Tuesday, mid-Michigan! Hope the warm weather has been enjoyable. If you are up with us, here are five stories to know.

1. Jury selection begins today in James Crumbley’s trial. The father of the Oxford school shooter faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors allege James didn’t get his son help for his mental health and bought the gun used in the shooting. His wife, Jennifer, was found guilty for the same charges in her trial last month.

2. It’s Super Tuesday. Hundreds of delegates in the presidential primaries are up for grabs in 15 states and one territory. It’s a potential make or break for the Nikki Haley campaign, as Republicans call on her to drop out against frontrunner, former president Donald Trump. On the democratic side, President Joe Biden faces two long-shot challengers and criticism for his handling of the Israel-Hamas war.

3. Court records show the State Theatre in Bay City had $100,000 to $500,000 dollars in assets but owed anywhere from $1 million to $10 million to 56 entities. The theatre closed after filing for bankruptcy and faces multiple lawsuits from companies and performers who claim they were never paid. The theatre board is now looking for new ownership for the venue.

4. Several organizations are set to show their support today for Michigan House bills. They’re hoping to modify cardiac emergency response plans and require CPR and AED certification for schools, athletics and school events. Members of the American Heart Association, the NFL, American College of Cardiology and the Michigan Association of School Boards are all expected to testify. The hearing starts at 10:30 a.m.

5. Preschoolers and parents are invited to the Historical Museum of Bay County today for family playtime. Together, you can explore the galleries for clues to complete challenges, spend time in the readers room and play at the activity table. The event is free and is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
