Lou’s Burgers, at 6229 Watt Ave. in North Highlands, was known for its affordable burgers — $6.35 for a single, $7.50 for a double and $9.10 for a triple — and its old-school decor. Patrons would often order their food and then eat it on the hood of their car, reminiscent of a 1950s drive-in. The restaurant has served the Sacramento area since 1958.

“You will be missed. Have been coming there as far back as I can remember,” wrote Nellie Burnett. “Lou’s was our high school hang out. My boyfriend ,now husband ,and I had our names carved on the original picnic tables !”

Tara Wood echoed those sentiments. “Some of my earliest childhood memories are from this place. … This will be a huge loss to the Highlands community.”

SFGATE reached out to Lou’s but was unable to reach the owners in time for publication.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce our closing,” said a statement from the owners on social media. “… We love and appreciate each and everyone of you. … This process has been hard, all the support you have provided has made it smoother then it would have been without you all.”
