Adorable Twin Girls Joyfully Arrive in the World, Welcomed by Giant Panda

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A giant panda has given birth to healthy twin girls at a South Korean theme park. The birth took place last Friday at the Everland theme park near Seoul, according to the park’s operator. Video footage of the birth and the mother caring for her newborns was released, along with footage of veterinarians examining the cubs. This is the first time panda twins have been born in South Korea, as confirmed by the Samsung C&T Resort Group. Both the mother, Ai Bao, and the newborn cubs are in good health, according to the resort group. The panda species, native to China, has been saved from extinction through years of conservation efforts in the wild and captivity. The population has increased from fewer than 1,000 to over 1,800 in the wild and in captivity. While giant pandas typically have a life expectancy of about 15 years in the wild, some have lived up to 38 years in captivity. The resort group plans to closely monitor the health and growth of the cubs before deciding when to introduce them to the public. In the meantime, they will use social media to showcase the cubs. Ai Bao and another panda named Le Bao arrived at the park in 2016 from China on a 15-year lease. In 2020, Ai Bao gave birth to her first cub named Fu Bao. Prior to the birth of the twins, these pandas were the only ones in South Korea. Everland’s Panda World, where the pandas reside, has attracted over 14 million visitors, according to the resort group.
