Advocates Demand the Release of Video Footage Regarding the Page Incident Involving Rep. Van Orden

A House Democrat is calling for the release of any security camera footage of an incident involving Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) last week. In a letter to the chairman of the House Administration Committee, Rep. Mark Pocan requested the video, stating that it is crucial in determining if the allegations against Van Orden are true. Pocan described the allegations as deeply disturbing and potentially indicative of abusive behavior toward a group of minors on Capitol grounds. Van Orden has not denied the accounts of the incident but has stated that he was trying to preserve the dignity of the Capitol’s interior rotunda. Reports indicate that Van Orden encountered a group of Senate pages taking pictures in the rotunda and yelled at them to leave. Lawmakers from both parties have stood up for the pages, and some have called for Van Orden to apologize. Pocan stated in his letter that if the allegations are true, they are completely unacceptable and raise questions about Van Orden’s fitness for office.
