Air India to Commence Flights to Los Angeles and Boston

Air India, owned by the Tata Group, plans to expand its operations to more US cities, including Los Angeles and Boston. Currently, the airline offers non-stop flights to Washington DC, New York, New Jersey, Chicago, and San Francisco. Los Angeles and Boston are being assessed as potential new destinations for long-haul flights. Factors being considered for starting new destinations include fleet size, pilot strength, and traffic volume. Air India hopes to tap into the large number of Indian nationals and people of Indian-origin living, working, and studying in the US, as well as the tourism market. The airline is on the revival path since being acquired by the Tata Group in January 2021. It recently announced a deal worth $80 billion to purchase 470 narrow-body and wide-body planes from Airbus and Boeing. Air India will need over 6,500 pilots to operate these aircraft in the coming years. The privatisation of Air India has allowed the airline to tap into a large segment of the market that was previously untapped. The trust and reputation associated with the Tata brand has made it easier for the airline to succeed and gain support.
