AirTag: AirTag helps recover stolen luggage and catch the thief

A family from Florida recently recovered their stolen luggage while on a trip to the North Carolina mountains with the help of Apple‘s AirTag item tracker.
At Charlotte Douglas International Airport, the Gavino family discovered that one of their bags was missing. Fortunately, Catherine Gavino had previously placed an AirTag inside it. By using the location data from the AirTag, Catherine was able to track it down to a house in Gastonia, North Carolina.Upon arriving at the location, she immediately contacted the police.
The police were contacted by someone who found out that their suitcase had been stolen from the airport. They arrived and notified the homeowners about the situation. They found the suitcase of the family and another victim whose luggage was also stolen from the airport.
As per Catherine’s statement to Queen City News, the Gastonia Police informed her that someone else also called with the same issue, and they had an AirTag. However, there wasn’t much left in the suitcase when it was recovered. Despite this, Gavino is pleased that they were able to recover the luggage itself and seek justice. The suspect was eventually arrested and charged with multiple theft crimes.
Catherine explained that the police believe the clothes may have been sold for money. These were her parents’ belongings, who were coming to the mountains for a North Carolina view, so it made her sad that this happened. That was all the more reason for her to go after the thieves. She wouldn’t have found them without the help of the AirTag.
AirTags have been successfully used to prevent countless crimes, ranging from stolen cars and luggage to a bull statue that was stolen from a Taco restaurant in Texas.
