Alameda family was followed home from shopping center, robbed at gunpoint, police say

ALAMEDA — Police here have arrested one of two men suspected of following a family of seven from a shopping center to their Alameda home and robbing them at gunpoint, court records show.

The suspect, a 29-year-old Oakland resident, was charged Oct. 25 with second-degree robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Police say they’re still working to identify the second robber.

The man, woman and their five children were followed to their Alameda home by two men, who police say were seen at a nearby Target where the victims had been shopping. As the victims got home around 1 p.m. the robbers appeared and held a gun to the man’s abdomen before making off with $2,000 in cash, a $10,000 Rolex watch and a $600 designer wallet, police say.

One of the suspects was later identified from a photo lineup and from surveillance video at the shopping center. By coincidence, a private security guard also obtained a video of the suspects fleeing in the area in an Infiniti, but was unaware of the robbery. The guard simply took the video because he was mad that the Infiniti was speeding, police said.

The 29-year-old Oakland man has a history of felony convictions, “all involving shooting or possessing firearms,” police said in court records. He has since been released from jail while the case is pending.
