Alex Marquez Secures First MotoGP Victory at Silverstone Sprint Despite Bagnaia’s Troubled Performance

Gresini Racing’s Alex Marquez clinched his maiden MotoGP victory at the Silverstone sprint, fending off a late charge from VR46 Racing’s Marco Bezzecchi. Maverick Vinales of Aprilia rounded off the podium to complete the ninth sprint showdown of the ongoing campaign.

Following the wet conditions we’ve seen so far during the weekend so far, the rains had stopped a few hours before Saturday’s sprint. As the lights went out, Jack Miller put on an unsurprisingly impressive start on his KTM, putting himself ahead of pole-sitter Bezzecchi.
However, following a quick exchange of positions between the two leaders, it was Pramac’s fast charging Jorge Martin who overtook them both and led the opening lap.

On the other hand, reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia had a nightmare outing as he dropped outside the points bracket and of top 10, after nearly getting into blows with Johann Zarco. As the race progressed, Vinales and Espargaro climbed up to fourth and fifth positions, pushing Martin to sixth, while Zarco moved up to seventh.

Meanwhile, Honda’s Marc Marquez and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo struggled at the back of the field, lacking pace. Meanwhile, Miller’s performance suffered lap after lap as his pace decreased in the dry conditions.
On the final lap, a last-minute move by Zarco secured him fourth place ahead of Aprilia’s Aliex Espargaro while Martin finished in sixth after briefly losing and regaining sixth position from Miller.
Augusto Fernandez at seventh was followed by KTM’s Brad Binder as RNF’s Miguel Oliveira rounded off the top 10. Bagnaia finished at P14 while Marc Marquez and Quartararo saw the chequered flag at P18 and P21, respectively, in what was a day to forget for Japanese motorcycles.
