Andrea Bocelli has been forced to postpone some US shows after a diagnosis from doctors left him unable to sing safely.

Having been due to perform in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last week the Italian tenor did give a “short impromptu concert” in the city, but with special guests including his 11-year-old daughter Virginia Bocelli singing on his behalf.

The 65-year-old shared on his Instagram: “A way to say ‘thank you’, ‘we’re sorry’, and ‘we gave it our all’.

“When the doctors told me the other evening that it could be dangerous to my health for me to sing, we wanted to say in music: thank you, sorry, see you very soon.

“We did it by bringing some special guests to the stage, including little Virginia, with me playing the piano.”

Bocelli continued: “As with the Boston concert, we’ll be back for another date in Philadelphia soon: that short impromptu concert was just a way to thank everyone for their patience and understanding and a promise to return as soon as possible, to sing and celebrate with you at our concert in your area!”

Virginia regularly duets with her father on tour and recorded A Family Christmas album with him last year alongside her brother Matteo Bocelli.

A deluxe version of the record is out this Christmas with a new cover of Let It Snow.
