Thousands of Audi vehicles have been recalled over fears a defect with the car’s internal fuse box could cause injury or death.
The defect impacts almost 8000 Audi A3 and Q2 models made between 2019 and 2023.
According to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, an “installation defect” means the wiring harness in the car’s internal fuse box could become loose.

If this happens, “the vehicle may experience a sudden loss of motive power whilst driving”, the department said.
The car’s instrument cluster, the screen in front of the steering wheel which displays the speedometer and rev-counter, may also fail to light up.
In addition, any lamps inside or outside the car could also turn off.
“A sudden loss of motive power and reduced or poor visibility whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users,” the department said.
If the installation fault does occur, drivers will still be able to steer and apply the brakes.
Audi will contact affected owners asking them to schedule an appointment to repair the issue.
The work will be carried out free of charge.
