She believes this sets a good example for her kids to try new foods. One of the staples in her freezer is bolognese sauce, which she uses as a base for many family-friendly recipes. This sauce came about when Burton had a bad day and didn’t make it to the shops. She improvised by serving sweet potatoes with the bolognese sauce, corn, and cheese. This experience made her realize the versatility of bolognese sauce and how it can be paired with other ingredients. By utilizing her frozen meal system, Burton only needs to cook three to four times a week. On other nights, they have leftovers or creatively use bolognese sauce in different meals. This approach not only saves time but also reduces the amount of dishes to wash. Burton believes that being organized and shopping around helps her save money on groceries. She waits for items to go on special before buying them and buys meat in bulk to freeze. Her slow cooker meals also save time since she preps the ingredients, using half for immediate cooking and freezing the rest for a later time. Burton shares many tips and tricks on social media, such as how she freezes mince meat, spaghetti bolognese, and even smoothies. She swears by her batch cooking and freezing method, claiming it makes life more organized and less stressful when it comes to dinner. Her family also saves money on takeaways by having homemade meals readily available in the freezer.
