Risby-Jones faced a charge of maltreatment, according to media reports.

It is understood Risby-Jones will be released on Tuesday night and could be on his way to Queensland within hours.

He reportedly faced up to five years in jail and a public lashing if convicted over the alleged attack in the town of Simeulue.

His victim, Edi Ron, suffered a large cut on his leg that required dozens of stitches.

He told 7NEWS that Risby-Jones “went berserk, chasing people”.

He claimed he was hit by the young man “from behind”.

“If I had not been saved by the people there, I would have been beaten in the ditch,” Edi said.

Risby-Jones told local media he felt “possessed” and “was not myself” during the incident.

In late May, it was revealed Risby-Jones had reached an agreement to pay his victim AU$25,000.

“I hope the money can be used to help you guys a lot,” Risby-Jones told Edi’s wife through an interpreter, the ABC reported.

“I am once again very sorry and I’m very happy that you accepted my apology. Thank you.”
