AutHer Awards Season 5 jury announced: Meet the esteemed jury members

AutHer Awards, a joint initiative of JK Paper and The Times of India, is an annual award that is given to remarkable Indian women writers who have improved the world of literature with their storytelling, narratives, and creativity. The prestigious AutHer Awards are given in six major categories, namely: Best Fiction, Best Non-Fiction, Best Debut, Best Children’s Literature, Popular Choice Award, and Best Manuscript.
Now in its fifth year, the jury for AutHer Awards Season 5 was announced on December 1, 2023. This year’s jury for various categories include:
1. Best Fiction Jury
Bestselling Indian author Anuja Chauhan has written seven novels. She is best-known for writing ‘Those Pricey Thakur Girls’, ‘The Zoya Factor’, ‘Baaz’, among others. Her latest book is ‘The Fast and The Dead’.
Author-screenwriter Satyarth Nayak is based in Mumbai. A former SAARC Award-winning correspondent with CNN-IBN, Delhi, he is known for writing the authorised biography of Sridevi and “Mahagatha.”
Pallavi Aiyar is an award-winning foreign correspondent and author. She writes weekly newsletter on global travel and culture, The Global Jigsaw.
2. Best Non-Fiction Jury
Novelist and former diplomat Vikas Swarup has authored three books, one of which became was adpated into the famous movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1986 and served in diplomatic assignments in Ankara, Washington DC.
Author Parvati Sharma is a woman with many feathers on her cap. Her debut novel, was praised for its portrayal of love and sexuality in a changing, urban Indian landscape.
Historian and author, Upinder Singh is a professor of History at the Ashoka University, Sonepat. She is fascinated by subjects of archeology and Indian international relations.
3. Best Debut Jury
Actress-author Tisca Chopra has acted in over 50 feature films and works with NGO’s and small businesses to help empower them. She has also written two books.
Shipra Khanna is an Indian celebrity ched, restauranter, author, and television personality.
Nikesh Murali is the Commonwealth Short Story Prize winner for Asian region, and also the voice behind one of the most famous Indian horror podcast, Indian Noir.
4. Best Children’s Literature Jury
Christopher C Doyle is a bestselling author, TEDx speaker, a Mahabharata scholar, and an explorer of ancient archaeological sites and legends around the world.
Kevin Missal is one of the youngest mythology and fantasy authors. He released his first book at the age of 14.
Preeti Vyas is the President and CEO of Amar Chitra Katha Private Ltd, publisher of the iconic Amar Chitra Katha comics and Tinkle magazine.

The Popular Choice Award winner is announced based on an online poll. Meanwhile, the winner of the Best Manuscript category is selected by the AutHer Awards’ team.
In the previous four editions, the AutHer Awards received over 5000 submissions across five categories, accompanied by immersive multi-city book reading sessions, both physical and virtual. This incredible journey has seen the participation of over 70 distinguished personalities over the years.
This year too, the awards are planning multiple book reading sessions with women writers across India.
The nominations for AutHer Awards Season 5 is open till 15th December, 2023. The winners for AutHer Awards 2024 will be announced at a gala award night on March 8, 2024 (tentatively).
