The rocker from Napanee, Ont., was on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast where she addressed the rumours that she died in 2003 following the release of her debut album Let Go, and a look-alike named Melissa took her place.

“I mean, it’s just funny to me,” the 39-year-old singer told Cooper.

“Like, on one end, everyone’s like, ‘Oh my God, you look the exact same, you haven’t aged a day!’

“Other people are like, ‘There’s a conspiracy theory that I’m not me.’”

Lavigne joked that “it could be worse,” given other celebrity conspiracy theories out there, and simply thought rumours of her death were stupid, not “negative or creepy.”

Cooper disagreed, saying, “Avril, this conspiracy theory about you is a little creepy, come on,” but Lavigne replied, “I don’t know, it could be worse. Obviously I am me. It’s so dumb.”

At one point, Cooper asked the singer-songwriter, “So, your name is Avril Lavigne?” But the Complicated singer took it all in stride.

“I knew you half-believed it!” Lavigne said, laughing.

“You haven’t aged, I’m staring at you,” Cooper said. “You literally look the same from when you were younger.”

Of course, people had to weigh in on their thoughts, with most people talking about Melissa.

“Glad we cleared that up… that is Melissa,” one person wrote.

A second person asked, “Why’d you have to go and make things so complicated….Melissa.”

Another added: “But like, I’ve never seen Avril and Melissa in the same room, soooo…”

Lavigne announced that she is releasing her greatest hits album next month.

The Avril Lavigne: The Greatest Hits tour kicks off in Vancouver on May 22 at Rogers Arena.
