Axel Foley teaches Lions quarterback Jared Goff about Detroit

DETROITDetroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff received advice from Beverly Hills Cop Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) ahead of the NFL draft on adjusting to the city after he departed from the Los Angeles Rams.

Goff said he was nervous when he first came to Detroit through trade in 2021.

Overwhelmed by the enormity of the change, Goff was eager to assimilate into his new environment swiftly.

His eagerness to adapt quickly led him to seek guidance from someone who could understand the nuances of both cities.

“Axel had so much to teach me, like how to greet new teammates,” said Goff.

Using more foul language to engage in conversation was the first lesson Goff learned.

“Who the Expletive are you,” asked Foley.

The NFC North Divisional champion said when re-engaging with old friends, Foley suggested chastising their appearance.

“Hey, doesn’t he (Det. Billy Rosewood) look about 10 to 15 years older than me,” asked Foley. “We’re the same age. You look terrible.”

Foley also taught Goff how to be spontaneous, especially when a pass rusher gets through the Lions offensive line, but the lessons didn’t stop there.

Goff said his most significant lesson from Foley was ignoring the critics.

“The biggest I learned from Axel is to ignore the critics because guys like us, we get the last laugh,” Goff said.

The film is expected to drop on Netflix on July 3 during Lions training camp, so hopefully, Foley’s lessons will be in full effect in front of his highly-paid teammates.
