Babar Azam has joined Chris Gayle in a unique list after scoring his maiden hundred in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023. Babar’s quickfire 104 off 59 balls helped his team, the Colombo Strikers, secure their second win in the tournament by defeating the Galle Titans by seven wickets. With this hundred, Babar became the first Asian batter to score 10 centuries in T20 cricket. Only Chris Gayle, with 22 hundreds, has hit more centuries in T20 cricket than Babar. Babar’s stellar performance came after a slow start in the first match, where he scored only seven runs. However, he gained momentum in the subsequent matches, scoring 59 and 41 runs. In the match against the Galle Titans, Pathum Nissanka also contributed with a half-century, sharing a 111-run opening partnership with Babar. Although Babar got out in the last over, Mohammad Nawaz ensured their victory by hitting a six and a four. With this win, the Colombo Strikers secured the third position in the points table with four points from four games.
