Barn find: Ford XY Falcon GT found covered in dust under Brisbane house sells at auction for $230,000

With no reserve and more than 400 bids, a “one-of-one” 1970 Ford found covered in dust under a Brisbane house has sold at auction.

The buyer has forked out $230,000 for the XY Falcon GT that sat unmoved under Clive Anderson’s Coorparoo Queenslander since 1975.

The Grays auction on Tuesday night was won by a bidder in San Souci in Sydney.

“The car will be going down to Sydney,” auctioneer Rian Gaffy told 7NEWS.com.au.

“He’s pretty pleased with it. He had one similar when he was a young bloke.

“He’s always wanted to buy another one, so when this one came up, he though he’d jump on the chance.”

Gaffy said the car attracted a “heap of interest” across the country.

“I think that was a fair figure for the car,” he said.

“It’s a unique car but needing full restoration, so I think that’s a fair price.”

Gaffey previously had described it as a “one-of-one” series – a “special build” that was initially owned by the Ford Motor Company.

Anderson lived in the Coorparoo home in Brisbane’s east since 1960 up until this month.

With the move, he had to part with the car. He had parked it under the house when he was given a work car.

But after years of inactivity, the car eventually stopped working.

So there it stayed — until this month, when a front end loader was called in to drag it out.
