Triangle Of Happiness! How Two Bengaluru Researchers Swap Their Lucrative Jobs To Craft The Perfect Samosa, Now Earns Rs 12 Lakh A Day

When Nidhi Singh and Shikhar Veer Singh, a Bengaluru-based couple decided to quit their high paying jobs as scientific researchers to start a food business, everyone was taken by surprise. The couple had been married for five years and decided to dive into the world of entrepreneurship as Shikhar had been having a calling to start a venture with the popular Indian snack samosa. The couple resigned from their jobs and moved to Bengaluru, where they opened their business “Samosa Singh” in 2016. According to a Times Now report, they now earn about Rs 12 lakh per day.

Nidhi and Shikhar both came from well-off backgrounds. They first met in Haryana while pursuing their B-Tech in Biotechnology. Shikhar later studied MTech at the Institute of Life Sciences in Hyderabad and worked as a Senior Scientist at Biocon until 2015. Nidhi, on the other hand, found success in the corporate world, earning Rs 30 lakh at a pharmaceutical company in Gurugram. She started her career as a Business Development Associate with a salary of Rs 17,000.

The idea for selling samosas came to Shikhar when he was studying, and he dreamt of selling samosas outside State Bank of India (SBI) branches. However, he chose to become a scientist due to societal norms and his qualifications. But one day in 2015, after seeing a boy crying for a samosa at a food court, he decided to pursue his dream and quit his job as a scientist. He moved to Bengaluru and opened his business “Samosa Singh”. When they needed a larger kitchen space, they sold their expensive apartment and used the money to rent a factory in Bengaluru. Samosa Singh now has a turnover of Rs 45 crore and sells around 30,000 samosas per month, earning them approximately Rs 12 lakh per day.

Despite the challenges brought by the pandemic, the couple expanded their business into more cities. They now have 50 cloud kitchens spread across eight cities, including Mumbai, Pune, and Chennai. They are known for their Butter Chicken Samosa and Kadai Paneer Samosas, and they are planning to further expand their business with more flavors and in more cities. Additionally, they offer various other snacks such as Pani Puri, Dahi Puri, Masala Puri, Vada Pav, Dabeli, Samosa Platter, Jajeera, Gulab Jamun, Moong Dal Halwa, and more.
